Khara Bhath

Ingredients:


Rava - 1cup
Onion - 1
Grated carrot - 1/4th cup
Peas - 1/4th cup
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Chili powder - little(depending how spicy u want)
Mustard
Oil
Salt
Urad dal


1.In a pan add oil and then add mustard and urad dal.
2.After it pops add onion .Saute until golden brown and then add turmeric and chilli powder and then rava and fry well.
3.Then add grated carrot.Mix well and keep aside.
4.Add 2cups of water.Add salt and mix well.
5.After the water boils add rava and mix well not forming any lumps.Keep mixing until all the water is gone.
6.Keep in low heat for 5mins and serve hot with coconut chutney.

Grits Pongal

Ingredients:

Grits- 1cup
Moong Dal - 3/4cup
Jeera - 2 tbsp
Black Pepper  - 1 tbsp
Ghee
Cashew - 3
Salt

1.In a  cooker add the grits and moong dal.Add 31/2 cups of water and pressure cook for 3  whistles.
2.In a pan add ghee and then add jeera,pepper and cashwe
s.
3.Fry for 5mins and then add the mixture to the cooked dal and grits.
4.Add salt and mix well.

The taste was very nice. Today I made this for breakfast.We had it with Coconut Chutney and Sambar.

French Toast

Ingredients:

Whole Wheat Bread - 2 slices
Egg -1
Milk - 1/2cup
Sugar
Butter

1.In a big plate add the milk,egg and sugar.Mix well.
2.In a dosa tawa or a big pan add butter.
3.Dip the bread slices in the egg mixture and put in the tawa.
4.Cook well and turn to other side and cook both sides.

Serve with some fresh fruits.

Rava Pongal

I generally make pongal in rice.But I dint want to eat rice so thought of making it with rava.

Ingredients:

Kuli Paniyaram

I dint have a paniyaram pan so made them in muffin pan :).

Ingredients:

Idly Batter - 2 cups
Onion - 1
Mustard
Urad dal
Salt
Oil

1.In a pan add little oil and add mustard and urad dal.
2.After it pops add the onion and salt.
3.Saute till golden brown.
4.Add it to the idly batter
5.Grease the muffin pan and add the batter.
6.Bake it for 20 mins in 250Degrees.

I added brown sugar in some and made sweet paniyaram in a similar way.

Masala Poha

Ingredients:

poha - 2 cups
Chilli powder - 1/4tsbp
Turmeric powder - 1/4tsbp
Onion
Salt
Mustard
Urad dal
Oil
Cashews

1. Soak the poha in little water until it becomes soft.
2. Cut onions into small pieces.
3. In a pan add little oil and then mustard and urad dal.
4. After it pops the add the onion and salt.
5.Saute for a while and then add turmeric and chilli powder.
6.Add cashews and the soaked poha.
7.Mix well and masala poha is ready.

Pongal with Vadai

A typical south indian breakfast Pondal and vadai. 

Ingredients:
 rice- 1 cup
Moong dal - 3/4 th cup
Pepper - 1 tbsp
Jeera - 1 tbsp
Cashews - few
Ghee - 1/2 tbsp
Salt

1. In a pressure cooker add the rice and moong dal. Add 3 1/2 cups of water. Keep it for 3 whistle.
2. In a pan add ghee and add jeera,Pepper and cashews.
3. Add the salt and the mixture in the pan to the cooked rice and dal.
4. Mix well and the pongal is ready now.


Vadai:

Ingredients:

Urad Dal - 1 cup
Onion - 1
Curry leaves - few
Salt


1. Soak a cup of Urad dal for atleast 4hrs.
2. Grind the dal without adding water at all.
3. Add the chopped onion,curry leaves and salt.
4. In a pan add oil and heat it.
5. Take a little of the dal mixture and deep fry them in the oil


Serve hot with Coconut chutney.

Carrot Semiya Upma



Ingredients:
Semiya - 1 cup
Carrot -1/2 cup -grated
Onion - 1
Urad , Channa Dal
Mustard
Oil
Salt
1. Heat a pan with oil and add the mustarf,urad and channa dal.
2. Add onion and then carrot and saute it.
3. Add the semiya to the pan and roast it for a while. Do not burn it.
4. Transfer that to a plate and let it cool.
5. In the same pan add 2 cups of water. It is 1:2 ration. 1 cup semiya : 2cups water.
6. After the water boils add the semiya to the pan.
7. In a medium flame let the semiya cook for 5mins.
